Ashley Hayward

Ashley is a Red River Métis scholar specializing in Indigenous health and wellness. She is an Assistant Professor in Kinesiology and Applied Health at the University of Winnipeg and an active community volunteer with expertise in community-led research and Indigenous maternal health. Her doctoral research, conducted in partnership with the Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre of Winnipeg, examined best practices for supporting birthing people experiencing unstable housing.

Ashley is a wife and mother to two daughters, with kinship ties to the family names Hogue, Daignault, Ducharme, Turcotte, and Richard—some of whom took Métis scrip in St. Charles and St. Boniface. Outside of academia, she enjoys cheering on her goalie daughter at the rink, reading, cuddling her two Mastiff dogs, and watching reality TV.
