Dr. Naveen Poonai completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Toronto in 2004 and his postgraduate training at Western University in 2009. He obtained his Master of Science in Health Research Methods from McMaster University in 2013. He is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Paediatrics, Medicine, and Epidemiology & Biostatistics. He is the Chair of the Children's Health & Therapeutics Division of the Children's Health Research Institute and Chair of the Health Sciences Research Ethics Board. He is a Decision Editor for the Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine, a member of the executives of Empowering Next Generation Researchers in Child Health training platform and Pediatric Emergency Research Canada (PERC) and a contributor to Translating Emergency Knowledge for Kids and Children's Healthcare Canada. Recognitions include the Innovation Award from the Academic Medical Organization of Southwestern Ontario (2022), Canadian Paediatric Society Best Abstract Award (2022), the Terry Klassen Young Investigator Award from PERC (2019), and the Young Investigator Award from the American College of Emergency Physicians (2018).
