Dr. Nicole McKinnon is a staff physician in the Department of Critical Care Medicine, Scientist Track Investigator at the Research Institute and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at The University Toronto who specializes in neuro-critical care. She completed her MD and PhD at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in The Bronx, NY, followed by a residency in Paediatrics at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital at Columbia University Medical Center, and fellowship in Paediatric Critical Care at the Children’s Hospital Colorado. She then undertook an additional year of training in the developing field of paediatric neuro-critical care at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). She is co-director of the Paediatric Critical Care Follow Up Clinic, and assistant director of Neuro-critical care at SickKids. Her research focuses on how sedatives and analgesia affect children during and after critical illness. She is currently co-PI of the ABOVE pilot trial (Advancing Brain Outcomes in pediatric critically ill patients sedated with Volatile AnEsthestic Agents: A pilot multicentre randomized controlled trial).
