My name is Matt Carwana (he/him). I am a pediatrician and early-career clinician-investigator based on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples in Vancouver, BC. I split my clinical time between the inpatient pediatric units at BC Children's Hospital, and working with our social pediatrics program in downtown Vancouver. I specifically work with parents, children, and youth impacted by substance use. My interest in research is based on the conversations I have with patients and families on a weekly basis, and centres inclusion of people with lived and living experience of structural marginalization. My research program aims to generate high-impact evidence, innovate new models of health delivery, and change public health policy with the goal to eliminate the current adverse health gradient experienced by structurally marginalized children and youth due to the social and structural determinants of health. I've been lucky to be supported an inspired by many colleagues, mentors and patients as I start this journey. Outside of work, I recharge through travel, exploring the city on my bike, and catching the occasional yoga class.
